On the shore at Kagongo
The restaurant stands among the trees and granite boulders of Sunstone Beach, on the shore of Lake Tanganyika at Kagongo, in Rumonge Province, 59.4 km south of Bujumbura along the R.N.3.
The water runs west to the mountains of Congo, which sit on the horizon opposite and take the sun down behind them each evening. Tables are set in the round thatched dining room, on the terraces and out under the trees in the garden.
Most of our guests come for the day. You do not need to be staying with us to eat here.
Where you will eat
By road, or across the water
By car we are 59.4 km south of Bujumbura on the R.N.3, the lakeside road through Rumonge Province. The nearest airport is Bujumbura, about 55 km away.
We also arrange transfers to and from Bujumbura by boat, straight across the lake and on to the beach in front of the restaurant. Both road and boat transfers are organised on request.
Transfers must be arranged in advance. Mention it when you book and we will confirm your pick-up time.
Local flavours, and spices from around the world
Our chef uses all his talent to introduce you to local flavours and spices from around the world. Breakfast runs daily from 06:30 to 10:30 — fresh fruits, tasty juice, pancakes and much more, made with fresh, homemade products — and the kitchen serves through to 22:30.
The bar opens daily from 07:00. Our mixologist offers you classic cocktails as well as signature cocktails, best taken on the terrace as the sun goes down behind the mountains of Congo.
